School Health Services

The National Association of School Nurses defines school nursing as the specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students.

The goal of the Health Service Department is to prevent disease and maintain health of our students, which enables our student to focus on the education and be able to achieve their first choice.

Pequea Valley Health Services has two Certified School Nurses (CSN). We also have three Health Room Nurses that are  Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) who will care for students in the absence of the certified school nurse.

School nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.

If you wish to speak to a member of the health services department concerning your child, please contact the school nurse or health room nurse in your child's building.

* Illnesses or accidents that happen outside the school day should be referred to your family doctor or treated at an emergency room.

* Please remember : For your child to return to school after an illness your child must be fever free for the past 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications such as Tylenol. A fever is defined as a temperature ≥ 100.3º F.  Your child should not be vomiting or have diarrhea within the past 24 hours, and be able to eat and drink without reoccurrence of vomiting or diarrhea.  When an antibiotic is prescribed for a bacterial illness, your child must complete a minimum of 24 hours of treatment for bacterial illnesses before returning to school. Please make sure your child’s appetite and activity level have returned close to normal.  If your child was sent home with a rash, they may return when the rash is  resolved,  with a doctor’s note stating they are not contagious, or approval from the school nurse.
