COPPA and Additional Applications
The increased availability of online tools and apps provides our classrooms with innovative ways to enhance learning, engage learners, and personalize instruction. Many of these tools and apps use data to set up accounts and tailor the learning experience to meet individual needs.
The Pequea Valley School District is committed to the safety of our learners, especially when it comes to young learners using online resources. To this end, we regularly teach about appropriate online behavior including interacting via social networks, cyber-bullying, and protecting against the disclosure of personal information. We also recognize that many excellent online educational resources would benefit our learners, often by providing unique learning experiences. Notably, interactive online resources unfolds some of the most compelling educational tools for kids. While allowing access to these interactive online educational resources, we also want to balance the protection of your child’s privacy and personal information.
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is a law created and managed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). It applies to website and app developers and is designed to create protections for the privacy of children under 13 years of age. Linked below, Pequea Valley has compiled a list of interactive websites and applications approved for use. Each resource found on this page contains a link to a privacy policy, which describes how that website collects and uses student data. Pequea Valley is vigilant about protecting student information. We encourage you to explore each of these websites and applications to review the individual privacy policies. As Pequea Valley evaluates other online resources that meet privacy standards, we will continue to update this list of websites. We encourage you to check back periodically for the most updated information.
By default, learners ages 13-17 will have access to these tools for educational purposes. However, we understand that some families may prefer to limit their child’s access to these applications. If you DO NOT want your child to use these applications, please email Dr. Ashley Bottiglieri, Director of Technology, to make this request.
