Technology Coverage Program
Pequea Valley School District
Grades K-4 iPad Technology Coverage Program
The technology devices provided to the students at Pequea Valley School District are costly pieces of equipment that require learners to follow usage guidelines and to use caution when handling devices. The annual technology fee helps to cover the district’s cost of repairing and/or replacing damaged equipment. Technical and maintenance support for district-issued devices will be provided, as well as loaner devices when needed. Deductible costs are discounted by the technology fee, unless it is damaged due to negligence or vandalism.
All learners in grades K-4 receive an iPad and hardshell case with or without a keyboard, depending on grade level. It is the learner’s responsibility to care for the device and its accessories and to ensure the device is placed in a safe and secure environment when not in use. If the following items are lost or damaged, you are responsible to replace it for the respective fee: iPad hardshell case with keyboard $80; iPad case without keyboard $25. Accessories are NOT covered by the technology fee.
The technology fee of $10 per child is highly recommended. To enroll in coverage, complete the information on the reverse side and return to your child’s school office. *If you choose not to purchase coverage and the device or its accessories are damaged or lost, the parent/guardian is financially responsible for 100% of all repair or replacement costs.
Deductible Costs
Should there be a claim for equipment damage, the Technology Department will determine which tier the claim falls into based on the extent of damage, type of damage, and cost of the repair. Deductible costs are discounted by the technology fee, unless it is damaged due to negligence or vandalism.
Coverage Exclusions:
· Any damage found to be deliberate in nature will be classified as vandalism and is not covered by the district’s technology protection plan and may include disciplinary action or limited use of devices. In addition, damage caused by negligence, such as liquid spills or moisture, improper storage, or careless handling, will be the responsibility of the device holder and charged at 100% of the repair or replacement cost.
· If the iPad is misplaced, lost, or stolen, you must notify the school immediately and file a police report. In the event that a learner’s iPad is lost or stolen, that learner will no longer be permitted to take their replacement device home until an administrative hearing is held. The technology coverage program does not cover loss or theft that occurs off school property; you are responsible for repair or replacement costs.
· Damage to or loss of the iPad case is not covered.
· If another learner deliberately damages your child’s device, you will not be held responsible for the cost. However, if your child deliberately damages someone else’s device, you will be responsible for the full cost of the repair or replacement. Tech coverage only applies to your child’s assigned device and does not cover damage to other learners’ devices.
Other examples include, but are not limited to: leaving a device in an unattended, unlocked automobile; not carrying the device in its school-issued protective hardshell case or intentionally removing the iPad from the hardshell case; not reporting damage within 24 hours; vandalism to the device or its accessories; unauthorized downloads that cause damage to the device; etc. If a family does not pay the technology coverage fee and the device is lost, stolen or damaged while in that learner’s control, the district reserves the right to hold the parents/guardians responsible for full replacement or repair cost.
If for any reason your child is withdrawn or no longer attends Pequea Valley School District, the district-owned iPad must be returned to the school within seven (7) days. Failure to return the iPad and its accessories will result in legal action with the possibility of criminal charges. If the iPad or accessories are returned damaged, you are responsible to pay for the repair or replacement of those items.
The non-refundable, per-child coverage fee of $10 must be paid annually.
